Autogenic Relaxation technique is learning to separate one's self from the present focus and enter in to a controlled relaxed state through power of suggestion. During 'Journey On', the man's voice is calm yet focused on the specific suggestion. I found it beneficial to listen to it through once and then to go back through and do the exercise. I say this, because in past experiences with using the Autogenic technique, I found that my mind would process the suggestion and my body would begin to obey it just in time for a new suggestion to be announced. The second time through I was able to relax and focus just on the obeying part.
I found the description and application of the characteristics of a sponge he added in very interesting. He mentioned at one point the G.I. track, and I liked the idea of the process benefiting my track, because I have ulcers, and I know the only way the pain and swelling goes away is to be able to relax those muscles. The music of course added to its success. It gave me a sense of being able to be free from anything negative. It brought on the ability to ease the tension in my head and brought on slight drowsiness. I hope you all found it just as enjoyable and were able to find time to apply it. Good luck this week to all of you!
Wow, great explanation and reflection of the exercise! I also thought that the sponge example was interesting; it was easy for me to understand after that explanation. It's hard for me to comment right now because I'm still feeling very relaxed and drowsy from the exercise! Anyway, great job on your reflection and I hope that you have a very pleasant week!

Hi Tara,
ReplyDeleteGreat idea to listen to it first and then do it as an exercise. I am so tempted to make all my kids lay down and listen to it. I remember in Kindergarten, my teacher had us listen to a simulation of getting onto an airplane and floating in the air. This of course was at the beginning of nap time, lol. This technique has obviously been around a long time.
